About the fair

PolarExpo Fishing & hunting takes place every other year. The fair is a 3-day event which is visited by 1500-2000 attendants. In 2024, it will be the 9th time AKKC organizes a fishing fair in Greenland.

About PolarExpo

PolarExpo Fishing & hunting (formerly PolarFish) will be held in 2024 for the 9th time in Greenland. The first seven fairs took place in Sisimiut, but after a few cancellations due to Covid-19, the fair was moved to the northern part of Greenland and held in Ilulissat for the first time in 2022.

PolarExpo is the only trade fair for fishing and hunting in Greenland and is organized by Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center (AKKC) in close cooperation with Greenlandic actors. The fair has moved from Sisimiut further north to Ilulissat, as the hotel capacity is better in Ilulissat, but not least because many people are employed in the fishing industry in North Greenland, which ensures a larger visitor base.

The fair helps to emphasize AKKC’s role as a professional organizer of fishing fairs. In addition to PolarExpo in Greenland, AKKC also organizes the DanFish trade fair, which is one of Europe’s most important trade fairs for commercial fishing equipment. DanFish International takes place in Aalborg every two years and attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.

AKKC’s trade fair team is responsible for most aspects of organizing the trade fair in Grønlang; from selling stands, coordination, logistics, marketing, technical sales and execution. All the equipment for the stands is packed in containers and shipped to Greenland well in advance of the fair. About a week before opening day, a team of AKKC’s experienced stand builders move into the hall and together with local helpers, the stands are erected and tables, chairs and other stand equipment are set up so that the stands are ready for the exhibitors to move in with their own equipment that they want to present to visitors.

Patron & presidium

The current Greenlandic Minister for Fisheries has over the years done the fair the honor of being the patron of the fair, and thus endorsing the fair as a forum that brings together relevant exhibitors and interested visitors within Greenland’s fishing and hunting.
The presidium consists of the mayor of Ilulissat and the director of Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center.
